How to VLOG without a Selfie Flip Screen – Ulanzi UURig R031 REVIEW

This is a review of the Ulanzi UURig R031 Vlog Selfie Flip Screen Mirror with Cold Shoe.
This will allow you to vlog on a camera that doesn’t have a forward-facing flip screen, like the Sony A72 A7III Series, A7II, A7RIII, A6000 A6300 A6500; Fujifilm XT2 XT3 XT20 XT30; for Canon Panasonic LUMIX GX85 Nikon Z6 Z7 and other Mirrorless cameras.

Do you have one of those cameras that doesn’t have a forward-facing flip screen? Do you ever wonder whether your face is even in focus or even in the frame properly? Have you thought about buying another expensive camera just so you can see yourself?

Well, it’s a good thing you’re watching this video because for £20, I can show you how to fix that. And this is what I’m referring to. This is the UURig R031 by Ulanzi.

So, this is aimed at those kinds of cameras that don’t have a forward-facing flip screen. Like, for example, the popular Sony A7III and like my one, the Panasonic S1. Now, there are loads of other cameras out there that don’t have that kind of feature, but rather than you having to buy another camera just for that thing, you can just spend about £20 or think it’s 20 US dollars and you’ve got yourself the ability to see.

And it saves me from having to buy another expensive camera that has that feature. The link’s in the description if you want to buy this product. I do get a small commission, but at no extra cost to you.

It fits onto the cold shoe mount of your camera and it gives you an additional three cold shoe mounts. So you can mount your microphone, your lights, and anything else that needs to be mounted.

It is lightweight and portable, and it’s made of a durable and sturdy plastic. It works on a periscope imaging principle where the mirror is angled at 45 degrees. So you flip your screen up, point it towards the mirror. The mirror is at 45 degrees, so the image will go up into the mirror at a 90 degree angle towards you.

It is best for vlogging and seeing yourself to just compose yourself to see whether you’re in frame, whether you’re in focus, and whether the exposure is correct. It comes with a carrying pouch and a whole load of stickers. With this device, you don’t have to buy an expensive and heavy external monitor. For a quick vlog, just snap it on the top, do your vlog, and you’re done. You don’t need a battery for this, so you don’t have to lug another battery, adding to the weight of your setup.

These are three points to bear in mind. Because it’s a mirror image, the text is flipped. Secondly, if you have one of those cameras where the eyepiece is just under the cold shoe mount, it can get in the way. Third, the mirror can be a little bit small. Other than that, for 20 quid, it saved me a whole load of money and I think it’s a fantastic product.
